History of the city
Inglewood, with a population of about 114,000 is the 55th biggest city in California.
Inglewood’s history is intertwined with the KKK. The KKK were causing law enforcement and a local ruckus determined to do something about it. Though no KKK member would be convicted by the court, the cult was none prohibited in California. Interestingly, it’d take before their office shut in Inglewood for good.
In 1960, the census counted just 29 ‘Negroes’ among Inglewood’s 63,390 residents. Not black kid attended the schools of the city. Property agents refused to reveal houses to blacks and a curfew kept blacks off the roads at night. Over the next 50 years this all would shift as the rights permitted every American citizen slowly got traction. When a black man would elected as the fourth mayor of the city, fast forwards to 2011. Times do change everywhere, but it is bigtime, in the instance of Inglewood.
